Hi! I’m Eloise.
I am a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in New York City. I earned my BFA in Studio Art from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.
I make work about the body and the contradictions inherent in living inside one. A body is intimate and ordinary, yet it is also evidence, a diagnosis, a statistic, a political weapon. I’m interested in the amalgamation of these abstractions and the true somatic reality of inhabiting a body.
My research moves through feminist theory, disability studies, medicine, and histories of the body, tracing the ways bodies are defined, categorized, and governed. In the studio, I return these questions to the physical body—to flesh, sensation, weight, and form. I enlarge and distort familiar forms, imbuing them with a presence that demands attention. My work occupies the space where the repulsive and the beautiful begin to collapse into one another, where looking becomes uncomfortable but turning away feels impossible.
Alongside my studio practice, I work in photography, writing, creative direction, and pretty much any creative pursuit I can get my hands on. These ways of working inevitably bleed into one another. Above all, I want to make things that are difficult to look away from.
